3D Imaging in Tupelo, MS

3D imaging is an advanced technology that provides a comprehensive 360-degree view of a patient's oral health. Unlike traditional two-dimensional x-rays, 3D imaging allows dental professionals to examine the entire oral cavity, including the jaw, skull, teeth, and mouth. At North Mississippi Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Associates, we are proud to use advanced cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) technologies like the Carestream CS 9600 imaging system and i-CAT™ FLX to capture detailed images that help in diagnosing dental issues accurately and formulating precise treatment plans while utilizing fewer doses of radiation than traditional 2D imaging. 3D imaging with our CBCT technology enables our team to create custom dental restorations such as crowns, onlays, inlays, and implants, leading to better treatment outcomes for our patients. To learn more about 3D imaging and how it may help maximize your dental care, contact one of our offices in Tupelo, Southaven, Corinth, or Oxford, MS.

When performing 3D imaging as part of a dental exam, specialized imaging systems like the Carestream CS 9600 and i-CAT FLX are used. The process is similar to getting x-rays taken, but with 3D imaging, the system rotates 360 degrees around your head to capture detailed images of your teeth and jaw. This process typically takes less than a minute to complete for a full-mouth view. These images are then reviewed by our to assess any potential dental issues that may require treatment.

I had surgery today on a tooth extraction and a surgery around 14 years ago to remove wisdom teeth and correct my jaw line to break it and put plates and screws in it. I had a longer recovery with the surgery 14 years ago, but today was absolutely a breeze. The whole clinic was fantastic. Dr chrisman had the surgery done in about 30 mins and I was out the door so quickly! Can’t recommend this clinic enough.

I had both upper wisdom teeth extracted after coming in a few years ago. Everything went fine. Dr. West , the nurses and front staff were great. They were very comforting when I told them about the recent death of my husband. Excellent customer service, professionalism, and caring attitudes. Recovering well with no problems. I thank the Lord for sending me to North Mississippi Oral and Maxillofacial Services.

Am I a Candidate for 3D Imaging?

Many patients can benefit from 3D dental imaging, especially when detailed planning or precise diagnosis is important. Generally speaking, you may be a candidate for 3D imaging if you are experiencing symptoms that require deeper evaluation or if your treatment plan involves complex anatomy. Our providers also use CBCT imaging proactively to reduce guesswork and support more predictable outcomes. Some of the most common reasons our team may recommend 3D imaging include:

  • Implant planning
  • Wisdom tooth evaluation
  • Jaw or facial pain
  • Impacted teeth
  • Bone assessment
  • Sinus evaluation
  • Custom restorations

Again, our team carefully evaluates your specific concerns, dental history, and treatment goals to determine whether CBCT imaging is appropriate.

What can 3D imaging show that 2D X-rays can't?

It reveals tooth and root structures, bone quality, sinus anatomy, and nerve pathways in far more detail. This helps detect problems like fractures, infections, and impacted teeth more accurately.

Can 3D scans show cysts or tumors?

Yes, 3D imaging can reveal abnormalities such as cysts, tumors, or unusual bone changes. This allows for early detection and appropriate referral.

How long does a 3D dental scan take?

The scan itself takes less than a minute. The entire appointment, including setup and review, typically lasts 10 to 15 minutes.
